General Discussion
Hello! In this post,
I will discuss my experience with video games and how to stay healthy mentally and physically whilst still playing in your free time.
It really does depend on the situation things such as the game, time or money spent on said game etc can affect this. Staring at blue light screens and getting minimal exercise or work done is a huge issue which can come with video games if you aren't careful, however I believe there is a game for everyone.
You're a busy person? I’d recommend games like Minecraft where you can save and quit anytime. Creative/survival/RPG(role playing) games tend to have this kind of mechanic. These games also tend to have a creative side to them with options to create or build whatever you want ranging from character customisation to the entire world itself depending on the game.
While it's true you can save and quit anytime, some of these games tend to be addicting, which takes some people to the point of losing sleep, meals, exercise etc. This is why it's important to watch the clock when you play these games and if it's really difficult consider getting a timer or asking someone to tell you to get off after a certain time. As for bluelight there are options such as bluelight glasses to reduce the damage to our eyes. What's worse is that other games can have modes such as competitive, which are time consuming. Some games even last up to 40 minutes or more just for 1 win or loss so if you plan on playing these games you have to have good time management and make sure you are thinking about how it is affecting your health.
One thing from personal experiences with FPS(first person shooter) games such as Valorant or Overwatch is that the communities tend to be very toxic, no matter the rank as someone who climbed to platinum in both at one stage. I got abused at least 5 in 10 games for being a female or missing a shot or whatever my teammates could blame me for so one more thing to consider is who you are playing with. This is easily fixed however if you queue with a 5-stack of trusted friends, then no one can hurt you as they wont have access to your team's voice comms.
From these points it is clear whether you play intense competitive games, or more relaxed creative games. It's important to take breaks for your health mentally and physically.
